You have exchanged your beloved burgers for skinless chicken, and fries for plain boiled rice. You are even weighing your vegetables. It seems like you have been eating less than ever in your life before, and you're exercising too, and yet except for the first week or two, you have hardly lost more than a couple of pounds. Why? If it's getting you down, you're not the only one. Thousands of dieters are in the same position. They think they have the best diet plan and are doing all they need to lose weight, but the weight is still hanging around like it has nowhere to go. They are trapped in a lose-lose situation -- constantly denying themselves their favorite foods, but getting no results. Often they become overwhelmed by negativity and may abandon their healthy food diet or fall into an unhealthy binge-diet cycle. Do not let that happen to you! If your results are disappointing there are many possible explanations, and not one of them is a reason for abandoning your diet. First, in spite of keeping to your healthy food diet you may still be eating more than your body needs right now, or just exactly what your body needs to maintain its current weight. If your diet plan came from a book, magazine or website it may be too general for you. It may need to be adapted to your individual body type and metabolism. Consider consulting a dietician or other qualified nutritional expert for a personalized weight loss plan, and do not forget to discuss your diet plans with your doctor before starting. Second, perhaps you are not really keeping to your diet as closely as you think. You could be adding calories here and there without even being aware of it. What about drinks? Sure, you're buying diet soda instead of the regular kind. But what if you stop at the coffee shop? A cappuccino with cream, chocolate and sugar can be very high in calories. Perhaps your spouse likes a glass or two of wine in the evening, and does not like to drink alone. Then, how many times do you taste a dish while you're cooking it? And what happens to the food that your kids leave on their plates? If you can become more conscious of all the little things that you eat or drink, you may be able to introduce a few simple changes to cut out the hidden calories.
